Training With Melanie Quayle
- Are you struggling with a chronic injury?
- Are your muscle imbalances impacting your sports performance?
- Are you struggling with every day functional movement?
What is Kinetic Conditioning?
Kinetic Conditioning is CONSCIOUS
Functional Movement Training.
My practice is based on a method of client specific movement training called Kinetic Precision. Its foundation is laid in basic Pilates principals and its unique approach is based on two fundamental factors:
- Client Specific Training
- Precision in Movement
The approach is based on science and taught from an anatomical point of view. Clients are assessed, made aware of their imbalances and taught which muscles need to be recruited and strengthened in order to achieve balanced movement. Most importantly, the client is taught HOW to recruit these muscles and execute the exercises with precision and immaculate technique.

About Melanie
Melanie Quayle graduated from the University of Natal in 1996 with a degree in psychology and a diploma in HR management. She has always had a special interest in health and fitness, so went on to study Exercise Science and group and personal fitness training. In 2001, she completed her International Pilates certification through Stott and started working at a physio practice in Johannesburg. In 2003 she opened her own Pilates studio, focusing on rehabilitation training. In 2011 Melanie completed the post education Kinetic Precision course in Pretoria with Tanya Thompson.
Melanie established MQ Kinetic Therapy and Conditioning in 2013, specialising in posture and movement assessment and correction. She practiced for 5 years from The Naturally Yours Centre in Bryanston, Johannesburg. In 2018 she relocated to KZN and is currently practicing in Ballito. She works with all age groups from 12 years to 80 years, from the unconditioned client to the elite athlete; specifically, cyclists and runners. Her unique approach, being client specific training with precision in movement ensures guaranteed results.
Melanie has a personal interest in, and passion for endurance sport. Being a cyclist and runner herself, she has personal experience in dealing with many of the typical runner/cyclist biomechanical imbalances as well as injuries.
What to expect
What does the training involve?
The client is made AWARE of these imbalances and educated on neutral posture and correct biomechanics.
The client is taught which muscle groups or individual muscles are dysfunctioning and why, and HOW to recruit and isolate these muscles to correct imbalances. The client is taught neuromuscular pathway awakening skills through conscious movement repetition.
The client is given a personal program and trained in movement PRECISION and exercise technique.
what They’re Saying
Client Testimonials
She figured out things that no one else even noticed.
She worked out exercises for me which I could then also do in the gym.
As a direct result of Melanie and her Kinetic Therapy, I have been completely injury free for 3 years and counting. Considering I do 14+ hours of sports a week, including multi-day races, I consider that a major achievement.
It’s very rare to find someone who is not only passionate about their work but will explore and experiment to find the right movement to resolve the client’s issue. I cannot recommend her enough.

In the early 2000s, I suffered from a lot of pain on the right side of my lower back, as well as considerable neck pain from long hours spent on the computer. The lower back pain was so severe that I couldn’t sit in a car seat for more than 30 minutes at a stretch without a lot of discomfort.
I tried physio, chiro, massage and so on – nothing really helped. It was so bad, that I was convinced it was the car seat – a few car seats later, still no success.
For the neck pain, I had seen some neurosurgeons who told me that without a neck fusion I was doomed and that my quality of life would quickly deteriorate. Not wanting to go the surgical route, I went to all the other therapeutic disciplines, but although they all had something to offer, no one had a complete solution.
Then I heard about this Melanie person who did a different type of pilates to the norm and thought why not?
That was the beginning of a long, evolving relationship with Kinetic therapy. The lower back pain was diagnosed by Melanie as a weakness in my glute muscle on the right, and she developed exercises which made all the difference.
For the neck pain, she gave me a string of very basic exercises which while not wildly different from what the Bio’s and Physio’s has given me, were subtly different in implementation and process and as a result actually worked.
Around 2008 I started trail running and squash, and the combination of both sports is VERY HARD on the body, especially the legs.
You name the injury, I’ve had it.. The Physios, Biokineticists, Chiros and massage therapists all had their standard way of treating my injuries, often by giving me generic exercises which didn’t really work or completely misdiagnosing the reason for the injury, but Melanie was the only one who looked at my body mechanics and worked out specific exercises for me.
It was these that made the biggest difference to my sports performance and injuries. She figured out things that no one else even noticed.

I arrived at her studio a little sceptical, and over the next few months of my journey, the results started to show. My core got stronger, I was engaging my glutes and as a result, my cycling form began to improve. I felt stronger on the bike and I looked good while cycling (haha). My cycling peanut on the Watt was perfect it truly was remarkable how things improved in a relatively short time. I incorporated the learnings into my gym routine in addition to my cling, while continuing to see Melanie.
Each session had slight variations and add on’s to ensure your body was continually challenged and she kept things interesting.
I can honestly say that it was money well spent and even when I, unfortunately, had to stop my sessions the good habits that had been formed continued.

My journey with Kinetic Therapy
As with most new or perceived non-conventional treatments I was a little bit sceptical. What was this Kinetic Therapy anyway?
It all started with a conversation with a friend while out on a training ride. I was an above-average cyclist at the time but my riding style left a lot to be desired. My left leg was all over the place when I rode and this was further highlighted at the gym when riding a Watt bike, my peanut (the diagrammatical representation of my ride) showed that my pedal stroke was not optimal and in particular my left/right balance was out. In addition, comments had been made by some of the fellow cyclist that I was not engaging my glutes. I was not sure what that all meant but took the advice of my friend and made contact with Melanie at Kinetic Therapy.

I can most certainly recommend Melanie to get your body aligned and firing on all cylinders.

Melanie is a rare mix of extremely knowledgeable and extremely kind!
…before Melanie, I had to see a physio 2-3 times a week and drink a slew of pain pills just to cope. The people of Ballito and surrounds don’t know how incredibly lucky they are to have this absolute gem in their midst! If you’ve been dealing with chronic pain, just go and see Melanie! It’s absolutely life changing!

Melanie is a rare mix of extremely knowledgeable and extremely kind! She took me from having resigned myself to living with nonstop and often unbearable neck pain (slipped discs C5, C6 and brachial neuritis) to learning (relearning mostly really) how to move in a way that doesn’t create pain and in some cases even eases it. I have the odd flare up now and again (once maybe twice a year if that)whereas before Melanie I had to see a physio 2-3 times a week and drink a slew of pain pills just to cope. The people of Ballito and surrounds don’t know how incredibly lucky they are to have this absolute gem in their midst! If you’ve been dealing with chronic pain, just go and see Melanie! It’s absolutely life-changing! If she didn’t recommend an excellent replacement in Gauteng to me I was genuinely considering moving near to where she is to avoid restarting the pain cycle! She’s that incredible!
